More fleece.

At the dye day the other week I used dryed heather flowers on this small piece of fleece and it came out a disappointing dirty yellow shade.  There was a vat of indigo so I popped the fleece in and it came out this lovely shade of green.  The photograph here doesn't show its lovely colour so well, but it is a pleasing shade.

Dyeing with Dahlias.

Fleece dyed with Dahlia flowers.

I am going to needle felt this fleece to make some small hearts.  The fleece was placed in a bowl of cold water with alum as a mordant.  I then put in some faded dahlia flowers and left the bowl for a couple of days in the greenhouse.  The sunshine and warmth did its job and this is the resulting colour.  By not boiling up a pot on the stove I have saved fuel and still obtained a result.

Fleece prep.

This looks a bit ghastly but it is just a tub of sheep's fleece that I am soaking in water and some alum.  On Sunday I am off to a fun dye day and hope to change this mess into nice coloured fleece.  Once I have dyed the fleece I can then make some needle felted hearts.  The alum acts as a mordant and ensures that the fleece takes the dye.  Will look forward to showing the results.
